Impossible Animals Hybrid Levels
How Impossible Animals hybrid levels work: treadmill training raises the Lv. number, higher levels mean stronger Wild battles, and stars and $/s stay the same.
In Impossible Animals, a hybrid's level is a number attached to the hybrid itself — its card writes it in "Lv. N" form — and there is exactly one documented way to raise it: treadmill training, with your character running alongside. What a higher level demonstrably changes is combat power: more HP, more damage and deeper runs into The Wild's stages. What it does not change matters just as much when you decide whether to train: a hybrid's stars and its listed $/s income stay exactly the same.
How a hybrid's level is displayed
The level lives on the hybrid's card as "Lv. N" — separate from the star rating. The Fuse Atlas data records show one hybrid going from Lv. 1 to Lv. 506 through treadmill training, both values written in that same notation. In live play, the counter climbs during the run itself: one recorded session watched a hybrid tick from level 12 to 42, then 70, then 77, with the player noting it was rising "so fast" and that he had "no idea when it's going to stop."
There is no separate level-up screen to watch for. The level-up is simply the displayed number increasing while the hybrid trains.
What produces a level-up
The official How to Play — identical across the game's Roblox listing and the stat sites that reproduce it — names the action directly: "Train your hybrids on the treadmill to level up." Recorded sessions show what that means in practice:
- Put the hybrid on the treadmill; its XP starts increasing while it runs ("its XP is increasing").
- Get on and run with it — it will not train by itself. One player: "this guy won't run alone. I have to run with it. Only then will it run." Another realized the same thing: "I have to get on the treadmill with the animal, right, for it to evolve."
- Keep running while the Lv. number rises mid-session.
- Step off — "let me click here to get off the treadmill" — to end the session.
The exact controls for starting a session are covered step by step in the Impossible Animals how to train hybrids tutorial; this page is about what the level itself means.
What speeds training up
Three speed boosters are documented, though none has a measured effect size:
- Treadmill upgrades. The game description tells you to "Upgrade your pen and treadmill to grow your collection," and one session showed a treadmill upgraded "to level three" during a run. How much each upgrade speeds leveling is not stated.
- Robux level multipliers. In one recorded run, the shop offered "2x level" for 3 Robux and "4x level" for 7 Robux; right after buying both, the same hybrid's counter raced upward through 42, 70 and 77.
- The Ember spell. The shop sells an Ember spell described as "increases training level." Its price and effect size are not documented.
Confirmed effects of a higher level
The direction is consistent across three separate gameplay sessions: more level, more battle strength.
| Level observed | Context | What was observed |
|---|---|---|
| 77 | The Wild, early stages | HP called "super high"; enemies cleared easily; "In stage 2, our HP barely drops at all" |
| 22 | A duel | Seen "dealing 12 damage"; picked as the strong option ("level 22 should technically be strong") |
| 8 | Wild battles | "It's eliminating everyone"; players expected a further upgrade to "create havoc" |
| 3 | Jungle battles | The fox-cheetah was "already much stronger," used "like a war tank, destroying everything" |
| 2 | A jungle duel | The tricertank was "much stronger... Destroyed it real quick" |
Treat the exact numbers as single-session observations, not a stat formula — 12 damage at level 22 is what one duel showed, not a documented per-level curve. What repeats in every session is the direction: a higher-level hybrid survives longer, hits harder and clears content faster.
Why players train: deeper runs into The Wild
Leveling is deliberate because The Wild's stages get harder the deeper you go — and deeper stages rescue new animals to fuse. "We should probably just get a really high level so we can go super far," one player said before a long run; later: "Don't forget to level up for a second so I can go further... I'm level 500 now. Should be able to go quite far." At level 500, that player cruised through stages — "I can take on everyone right now, so easy" — even skipping stage rewards, and swept the earliest stages with a level-29,090 hybrid. Training is the route to that depth, not to card income. For the fighting itself, see the Impossible Animals battle guide and the Impossible Animals the wild guide.
What leveling does not change
Levels are, as the Fuse Atlas records put it, "a separate thing" from a hybrid's card stats. One hybrid taken from Lv. 1 to Lv. 506 on the treadmill still showed 10 stars and $429/s on its card — training did not raise the listed income. A gameplay session corroborates this: the same pet was giving $73 while it leveled and still $73 when re-checked at level 22.
Income tracks stars, not level: recorded card results run from 3-star hybrids at $1–2/s up to 10-star hybrids at $293–410/s. If you want more money per second, the lever is fusing higher-star hybrids — see Impossible Animals best fusions and the Impossible Animals money guide — not running the treadmill. That is the full, evidenced payoff of a level: battle strength. No source documents any other effect.
Caps, thresholds and open questions
No maximum level is documented. The highest value seen in these sessions is level 29,090, and "I have no idea when it's going to stop" is one player's mid-run observation — evidence that the counter keeps climbing in practice, not proof that no cap exists. No source ties reaching a level to unlocking animals, areas or features either; the unlocks shown in these recordings came from Wild battles and eggs, not level thresholds.
Also undocumented: the exact XP a treadmill run grants, per-level HP and damage formulas, and how much a treadmill upgrade, the 2x/4x Robux multipliers or the Ember spell actually speed training. Any guide quoting those numbers today is guessing.
Check it on your own hybrid
One training run is enough to verify everything on this page. Follow the how to train hybrids tutorial, watch the Lv. number climb while you run alongside your hybrid, note the card's stars and $/s before and after — they should not move — then take it into The Wild and feel the difference. If you are deciding which hybrid deserves the treadmill time, the Impossible Animals hybrid tier list compares hybrids on their merits.
