Impossible Animals Money Guide: How Pen Earnings Work
How hybrids earn money in your pen in Impossible Animals: the save-and-earn loop, what sets each $/s figure, and what remains unconfirmed.
In Impossible Animals, in-game money comes from your pen. You fuse two animals, the game merges them into a named hybrid, and once you press Save Hybrid, that hybrid sits in your pen earning its listed income — its $/s — on its own. The official How to Play compresses it to "Fill your pen with hybrids that earn money", and every community description and recorded playthrough frames pen income the same way: continuous and automatic, with no chest, button or turn-in you have to visit. This guide walks the loop step by step, then explains what actually sets each $/s figure — and which payout questions nobody has answered yet.
The earning loop: fuse, save, repeat
Fusion is the core of the game: you pick two animals, the game merges them into a hybrid, and that hybrid earns in-game money in your pen. The result screen tells you everything that matters before you commit.
- Pick two parents. The fusion screen opens with "Pick a mom". Choose one unlocked animal, then a second; animals you don't own yet show a padlock.
- Read the result screen. You get the hybrid's name, both parents, a star count and its income in $/s. A label such as "Golden Shiny" above the stars means you rolled a rare version.
- Press Save Hybrid. That sends the hybrid to your pen, where it starts earning on its own. New Fusion returns you to the picker so you can run the loop again for another earner; Explore World simply closes the screen.
Each saved hybrid is one more self-paying earner, so the loop repeats as often as you like. Pen space is finite, though: recorded play shows players removing or selling weak earners — one four-star giving $3 was sold specifically to free a slot — when the pen fills up. The picking and fusing steps are covered in more depth in the fusion guide, and pen setup lives on the pen guide.
What the $/s figure actually means
The income printed on the result screen is in-game cash earned each second while the hybrid sits in your pen. It is not real money, and it is not a battle rating — a great earner and a great fighter are separate things.
Every placed pet carries its own figure. In recorded play, a cheetah + T-Rex result sat in the pen "giving $3" next to an earlier $1 earner, and a player deliberately kept a modest 5-star fusion around purely "to earn money for us" while off fighting and fusing elsewhere. The rate you see on the result screen is the rate you get; the question is what produces that number.
What sets a hybrid's income
Four factors are visible in the recorded data, and all of them are decided by the time the result screen appears.
1. Star count
Across standard results on record, $/s climbs with the stars:
| Stars | Recorded income range |
|---|---|
| 3 | $1–2/s |
| 4 | $3–5/s |
| 5 | $7–9/s |
| 6 | $10–18/s |
| 7 | $27–42/s |
| 8 | $75–82/s |
| 9 | $106–133/s |
| 10 | $293–410/s |
2. The pair itself
The pair determines the result. Two different players fused Ant + Owl in opposite pick orders — one chose Ant first, the other Owl first — and both got the same 9-star Antowl earning $133/s, so displayed income tracks the pair's result rather than fuse order or the player. On the recorded leaderboard, Wasp is the parent to look for: it appears in five of the ten best results.
The highest-earning standard results on record — no lucky Shiny roll needed:
| Parents | Hybrid | Stars | Income |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stegosaurus + Wasp | Stegosawasp | 10 | $410/s |
| Ankylosaurus + Jerboa | Jerbosaurus | 10 | $293/s |
| Ant + Owl | Antowl | 9 | $133/s |
| Orangutan + Cowboy | Oranguwboy | 9 | $108/s |
| Wasp + Fox | Foxwasp | 9 | $106/s |
| Tank + Wasp | Tankwasp | 8 | $82/s |
| Wasp + Millipede | Waspede | 8 | $75/s |
| Cowboy + Spider | Cowbider | 7 | $42/s |
| Wasp + Orangutan | Oranguwasp | 7 | $38/s |
| Tank + Skeleton | Skeletank | 7 | $35/s |
3. Shiny tier
Any pair can occasionally roll a Golden, Diamond or Iridescent Shiny version of its hybrid, and those rare rolls carry more stars and more income than the standard result. Owl + Dragonfly shows the gap clearly: the standard Dragowl is 6 stars and $16/s, while the Golden Shiny roll in the same video was 8 stars and $73/s. When those players re-fused owl + dragonfly in the same order, they got the standard $16 result — confirming the Shiny roll itself was the bonus. More on the tiers lives on the shiny hybrids page.
4. Fusion depth
Fusing two already-saved hybrids together — a Double Fusion with four original parents — sits at the very top of the record: 12 stars and $1.54K/s for the Iridescent Stegosebungray, and 10 stars and $429/s for the Golden Venusflylytrex.
A note on where these numbers come from: they are not developer-published figures. They come from a community-maintained dataset of 72 recorded result screens, checked October 9, 2026 against the game's October 3, 2026 update, and cross-checked against gameplay video. Treat the ranges as observations of the current build and recheck them if an update touches economy values.
What doesn't change income — and what's unconfirmed
One tempting factor is ruled out on the record: treadmill level. Levels are a separate system. One recorded hybrid went from Lv. 1 to Lv. 506 on the treadmill and its card still showed 10 stars and $429/s; in a video, a level-22 pet still displayed its original $73. Training raises the levels that matter in a fight (see hybrid levels), not the listed income.
Plan around these open questions:
- Shiny odds. The roll odds for Golden, Diamond and Iridescent versions are unknown. Treat a Shiny result as a bonus and plan around the standard numbers.
- Shiny-only pairs. Where the record only holds a Shiny row for a pair, the standard version hasn't been measured yet — expect less than the Shiny number when you fuse it yourself.
- Upgrade effects. Official text ties pen and treadmill upgrades to growing your collection; no source has measured any change to payout rates from upgrading. That's unverified, not disproven.
- Away earnings and totals. Nothing confirms how income behaves while you're offline, or whether the game sums your pen's earnings anywhere — the per-pet $/s on the result screen is the only confirmed figure.
Once the loop makes sense, the practical levers are simple: run more fusions, keep the high-$/s results, and make room for them. Compare pairs on the best fusions page, or look at how to make money fast and pen upgrades for the next steps.
